Storing your information

The term computer storage is often used for computer component or device that is capable of storing data. It usually refers to the storage of data in an electromagnetic form, for access by computer processor.

Computer storage, an electronic memory device that retains digital data that is usually used in computing, forms one of the most important components of a modern computer. It forms the fundamental part of a computer; memory and the CPU form the central part of a computer to which peripherals are attached. It stores information for subsequent use or retrieval.

Sometimes, the terms, such as “computer memory” or simply “memory” are also used for the computer components, devices and recording media that retain digital data used for computing. However, there is technical difference between memory and storage. According to the computer science, “memory” is temporary form of storage. It usually refers to a form of solid state storage known as random access memory (RAM) and sometimes other forms of fast but temporary storage. “STORAGE” however more commonly refers to mass storage - optical discs, or other forms of magnetic storage like hard disks, which are slower than RAM, but of a more permanent nature. Thus technically, Storage is mainly classified into “Primary Storage” and “Secondary Storage,” but sometimes the terms, such as ‘Tertiary storage’ and ‘Off-line storage’ are also used for elaborate classification.
